How Neon Cut works

Neon Cut is a free online territory game for two balanced teams. Your player begins inside a permanent home strip that the opposing team cannot capture, so every interruption still has a safe respawn. Cross its edge to create a bright exposed trail, steer around open grid cells and reconnect the trail to friendly land. A valid closure fills the enclosed area for your team and adds those cells to the score.

Cut a trail, not a health bar

An opposing player can interrupt an unfinished trail by crossing it before its owner reaches safety. The open route disappears and its owner is briefly stunned before respawning on safe team territory. Nobody loses health, takes damage, dies or sits out the rest of the match. A cut denies a risky capture without removing a player from a 60-second contest.

Most territory after 60 seconds wins

The team with the higher weighted territory score at the regulation horn wins. During the final 15 seconds, every owned cell inside the clearly marked central zone counts double. If the teams are tied after regulation, the first valid new capture wins sudden death. If neither side closes a capture within 15 seconds, the server records a draw instead of choosing an arbitrary winner.

Equal tools, readable timing

Three fixed actions for every player

There is no pre-match loadout or character-stat advantage. Every player receives the same defensive, movement and space-control options, with the cooldown visible in play.

Neon Cut fixed actions and cooldowns
ActionActive timeCooldownPractical use
Shield1.5 seconds9 secondsProtect a committed trail run during its most exposed moment.
Surge1.4 seconds7 secondsGain a short movement burst to close a route or return to safety.
PulseInstant8 secondsPush nearby rivals away without dealing damage or eliminating them.

Desktop players use Q, E and R. Touch players receive three dedicated action buttons beside the movement control.

Build safe captures before chasing size

A wide loop can claim more cells, but its trail remains exposed longer. Begin with short closures that extend the team’s safe edge. Each successful capture gives the next run a better starting point and makes it harder for a rival to reach every possible trail.

Read the route in both directions

Before leaving safety, identify the intended return edge and one emergency exit. If a rival moves toward the middle of your trail, shorten the loop rather than defending a plan that no longer works. Pulse can create separation, while Surge is most useful when it completes a real closure instead of merely reaching empty space faster.

Spread roles in team modes

In 2v2 through 4v4, one player can extend territory while another guards exposed routes or threatens an enemy trail. Avoid drawing identical loops through the same cells. Separate angles force the opposition to choose which closure to contest and preserve room for a teammate to retreat.

Prepare for the center before it doubles

The central bonus begins with 15 seconds left, not at the opening countdown. Build a safe approach before that phase, then choose whether its double value is worth the traffic. A team already ahead may gain more by denying one central closure than by exposing every player in a last-second race.

Choose the field size

One rule set from 1v1 through 4v4

Team size changes traffic and coordination, not the value of a player’s controls. Instant Match may use clearly labelled AI after searching for people; Human Only never fills an open position with AI.

1v12Every long trail exposes the only scorer and defender.
2v24Pair one capture route with one cut threat.
3v36Use separate lanes and rotate toward the bonus center.
4v48Coordinate short closures; crowded trails invite chain interruptions.

Neon Cut FAQ

Questions before the first trail

Is Neon Cut free to play?

Yes. Neon Cut is free in a supported desktop or mobile browser, with guest play and no separate installer, launcher or browser extension.

How do you capture territory in Neon Cut?

Leave your team’s safe territory, draw an exposed trail and reconnect it to friendly land. The enclosed cells become your team’s territory after a valid closure.

What happens when an enemy cuts my trail?

The unfinished trail is cancelled and your player is briefly stunned before respawning on safe team territory. There is no health, damage, death or permanent elimination.

Can the opposing team capture my home strip?

No. Each team’s outer home strip is permanent safe territory, so every interrupted player can respawn on owned land. Territory beyond those protected strips remains contestable.

How long is a Neon Cut match?

Regulation lasts 60 seconds. If territory is tied, the first valid capture wins sudden death; if neither team captures within 15 seconds, the match is a draw.

What changes during the final 15 seconds?

Every owned cell inside the marked central zone counts double while the bonus is active, making established center control and late captures equally valuable.

Which Neon Cut team sizes are available?

Neon Cut supports 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4, for a total of two to eight players.

Does Neon Cut use a character loadout?

No. Every player has the same fixed Shield, Surge and Pulse actions with published durations and cooldowns.
